News on #fundfostercarers, our helplines and useful resources

Dear

We know your role as a foster carer has expanded significantly during this unprecedented and ever changing situation. Please know that we are here to help and keep you informed.

Helplines: extended opening hours

To further support you during this time we are trialling extending all our helplines’ opening hours to include Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9.00pm. Please make sure you leave a message if you can’t get through straight away.

You can also phone our confidential stress support service for members as usual.

Foster carer funding

We are concerned that many foster carers are facing financial insecurity after falling through the gaps of government funding relating to coronavirus. That’s why we, along with other fostering organisations, have written an open letter to governments across the UK asking them to #fundfostercarers during the covid-19 outbreak. We’ve already heard back from Vicky Ford, children’s minister in England, and we’ll be meeting with her next week to ask the government to commit to financially supporting foster carers and recognise the vital work you are doing.

If you’ve got experience of or evidence about how you have been financially impacted in your role as a foster carer by coronavirus, please email campaigns@fostering.net

Useful resources

Our coronavirus hub provides you with useful information and resources and we are also publishing blogs to help you navigate the many situations you might encounter, for example:

·      online contact

·      reducing anxiety

·      indoor activities

·      educating at home.

Should you be concerned about online safety, please check out our latest editions of Thrive magazine where we cover how young people can stay safe online.

Better together

Don’t forget you can share advice and connect with other foster carers on our online community or via social media (Facebook, Twitter).

Thanks so much for all you are doing at this time for children and young people.

Take care and stay safe
